When I first stepped into this antique home in Concord, Massachusetts. The kitchen, with its tired oak cabinets and well-worn tile floor, whispered stories of decades past. It had character. It had charm. But it also had some serious inefficiencies tight corners, minimal storage, and an overall layout that just didn’t support the way our client lives and cooks today.
Still, I saw the potential. That’s what I love about remodeling older homes there’s always a story hiding beneath the surface, just waiting for its next chapter.
From the very first meeting with the homeowner, we were aligned: this remodel wasn’t about wiping the slate clean. It was about honoring the home’s history while making the kitchen and powder room beautiful, functional, and timeless. She trusted me to help preserve the soul of her antique home while solving real life layout and storage issues and I was all in.
The original kitchen was compact and inefficient. The cabinetry had seen better days, the finishes were dated, and the whole space lacked flow.
We installed stunning @ShilohCabinetry in the Evergreen Fog painted inset door style a soft, muted green that felt at home in the antique setting yet fresh and elevated. The inset doors and custom trim work round the island gave the cabinetry a furniture-like appearance that felt perfectly in step with the age of the home.
To add contrast and texture, we selected honed quartzite countertops a natural stone that’s rich with character, soft hues, and warmth. Photos can’t fully capture the depth of this material; it has that quiet, organic beauty that you really have to see (and touch!) in person.
Just off the kitchen, the powder room got a facelift of its own. We kept it simple and classic, introducing a farmhouse-style sink that immediately became a conversation piece. It’s charming, practical, and totally fitting for a home of this vintage.
This wasn’t just a “before and after” project it was a transformation we documented from the very first day of demolition to the final reveal. Every decision was rooted in craftsmanship and intention. Every detail, from the placement of the sconces to the choice of wall color, was made to enhance the feel of this antique home.

It’s one of our favorite stories to tell because it’s about more than just cabinets and countertops. It’s about bringing a well-loved home back to life, so it can continue to be a gathering place for decades to come.
